General Notes:
Ths anecdote courtesy of Susan Aston:
My son, James, was just about two years oild when we joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. We were so happy to receive the gospel. We lived in Beadling, Pennsylvania after we were married. While there we joined the Presbyterian Church because it was the only church there. When I left the Presbyterian Church and was baptized in the Church of Jesus Christ, they began to have meetings all around me just as close to my home as they could get. They sent leaflets to my home by my daughter the Sunday I was baptized telling what bad people the Latter-day Saints were. Or the Mormons as they were called. So they had men to come out to preach against the Church of Jesus Christ. My husband and my son, Russell, were baptized about a month later.
I was in the church one year when my daughter, Edith, took sick. She was sick just five days and she passed away. Our hearts were very heavy and we just hurt inside. The people from the Presbyterian Church would come in to see her and would say I was getting this terrible trouble because I had left their church. But I knew I had found the true Church of God, and had the Spirit of the Holy Ghost to guide me in the narrow way. The Presbyterian Church members came to me and said that we were getting punished for leaving their church. But time went on and as it did I knew every day more and more I had the truth. Three years later my Mother came to me and said, 'Minnie, I know that this church is true and I want to be baptized.' She and my daughter, Emily, were baptized the same day. This made our home happy for her to receive the gospel. One lady came in my home and asked my mother if she had to join the church, but my mother said, 'No, I did not have to join the church, but I joined it because I knew it was the truth
