In 1835 Jonas accompanied his family to Australia. His convict father, Zachariah Shaw had been sentenced to transportation for life following his conviction for forgery.

The family sailed on the convict ship "Royal Admiral" which arrived in Sydney on 22 Jan 1835.

Possible death in 1885 - Death record in the name of John Shaw (Reg No. 5954).
