Wesley Ralph Brown, 87, died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001, of congestive heart failure. Born March 11, 1913, in Hanley Falls, Minn., he lived in Poway for eight years. He retired in 1978, from State Farm Insurance as a district manager. He was a top manager for the company in Houston, Texas, for many years.

He retired as a colonel in the U.S. Army Reserves and served ilnring World War II. He was a member of the Methodist Church, American Legion commander, mayor of West University Place in Houston and president and chairman of the board of Houston Heart Association. He received the Dwight 1). Eisenhower Award for distinguished service in the community (Houston) in 1971.

Mr. Brown was preceded in death by his wife, Loraine Nelson Brown, in 1973. He is survived by his daughters and son-in-law, Sandra and Alan Williamson of Plano, Texas, Susan M. Hendricks of Mono Bay and Sara R. Brown of Los Angeles; stepdaughter Colleen Grimmett of Houston; sister Bernice Stabler of San Diego; grandchildren Bonnie Raskin, Robert Buck, David, Debbie, John and Jim Hendricks; Dietrich and Gretchen Schmitt and Heidi Youngdahl; and eight great-grandchildren.

A memorial service with military honors is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Friday, May 11, at Port Rosecrans National Cemetery in Point Loma. A private cremation is planned. The family suggests memorial donations to the American Heart Association, 3640 Fifth Ave., San Diego, CA 92103. Telophase Cremation Society is handling arrangements..
