Obituary:
Gerald Robert Hines June 6, 1945 - February 27, 2023
Gerald Robert Hines, Gerry, passed away February 27, 2023 from complications of dementia. His wife of 56 years, Kathleen, mother Perrine Hines, father Clifford Hines proceeded him in death. He is survived by his sister Jacky Murray, daughters Kristin, Teri and Amy. Grandchildren Annelise, Melissa, Tanner, Carson, Sam, Elizabeth, Annabelle, Walter and his great grandchildren Jack and Amelia.
Gerry was born and raised in Arvada, Colorado where he had many different hobbies and interests as a young man. He spent time barrel racing, riding and showing his horse, Momma Joe and playing the trombone in the high school marching band. During his senior year of high school he met his future wife Kami while at church. Upon graduating from high school, he experienced two major life moments: marrying his sweetheart Kami and enlisting in the Army. Shortly after the wedding, he was shipped off to fight the war in Vietnam where he served for 1 year and 18 months.
After serving his time in the Army, Gerry was discharged and the newlyweds set roots in Colorado. While in Colorado Gerry worked for a time for Pepsi. Gerry and Kami's oldest daughter Kristen was born in 1968 and two years later daughter Teri was born. The young family moved out to Oregon where their third child Amy was born in 1972.
He coached his girls in summer softball teams, was president of the softball association and organized multiple corndog fundraisers in the Thriftway parking lot. Gerry attended many classroom parties, sporting events, speech tournaments and dance recitals. He was either receiving a red card in a volleyball game, screaming at a basketball ref or running along side in a track meet. One only needed to find a daughter to know where Gerry would be as well. Gerry was always present and there for his family.
Gerry attended Oregon City Evangelical where he loved singing in the choir and performing in the Easter and Christmas cantatas. He loved praising and singing to the Lord. His favorite song was Amazing Grace and even with dementia you could catch him singing or humming the tune of Amazing Grace.
Gerry not only loved his family, but he also loved the Oregon City Community. A quick trip to the grocery store for a few items or for a chili dog would turn into several hours gone as he would run into old friends and make new ones too. Gerry was never too busy for anyone. He was a man who loved deep and wholeheartedly and always gave without hesitation. His favorite time of the year was Christmas, but he volunteered throughout the year fixing and restoring bikes for young children in need through Love, Inc. charity. Gerry's retirement years were spent supporting his daughters and son-in-laws in all their life ventures. He even coached his grandsons' baseball teams. Gerry would take his place on the sidelines as always for his grandkids. Whether it was baseball, football, wrestling, cheerleading, basketball, gymnastics, 4-H shows, lacrosse, dance or track meets. He was there rain or shine. Gerry will be greatly missed and well-remembered by his family and friends.
Memorial Service will take place at Willamette National Cemetery.~~~~Hillside Chapel & Funeral Service obituary
