  General Notes:

Dr. Melville Joseph Aston, 91, of this community, died Saturday in an area hospital. Born in Kingston, Pa., he moved here after his retirement from the U.S.

Navy. Dr. Aston was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Church. He attended the Mercersburg Academy, the University of Maryland a and George medical Washington in University, where he received his degree 1914. He served in the medical corps of the U.S.

Navy. Dr. Aston served as ship's medical officer in the North Sea and Atlantic Ocean convoy duty overseas during World War I. He later became a regular Navy officer and served in many naval hospitals and all types of combatant ships during the years leading to World War II. At the outbreak of the Pacific War, Captain Aston commanded the U.S.

Navy hospital ship Solace, based in the southwest Pacific. He was commanding officer of the Philadelphia Naval Hospital in 1945-46. He later served on various naval staffs and as the commanding officer of the Naval Medical School at Bethesda, Md. He left active duty in 1950 and began his civilian medical career with the city of Philadelphia. Dr.

Aston was a member. of the American Medical Association, the Association of Military Surgeons, and was a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He was a founding member of the American Public Health Association a diplomate of the American Board of Urology. He was honored for his wartime service with numerous awards for personal bravery and professional skills. Surviving are: his wife, the former Ethel Bunting of Philadelphia; two sons, William of Jacksonville, Fla., and Melville of Washington, D.C.; and six grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be said at 8 p.m. Wednesday in the Blessed Sacrament Church. A viewing will be held one hour prior to Mass at the church. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va., at 11 a.m. Friday.

The family requests Mass cards. Arrangements are by the Gormley Funeral Home, Atlantic City..
