In the Name of God Amen

I Jabez Stead of Farnley in the parish of Leeds and County of York Maltster being somewhat indisposed in my bodily Health but of sound disposing Mind and Memory (praised be God) and considering the Uncertainty of this Life do make and ordain this my Last Will and Testament in Manner and Form following and first and principally I recommend my soul into the Hands of Almighty God my Creator hoping through the alone Merits of my Saviour to inherit Everlasting Life and my Body I commit to the Earth to be decently buried in Christian Burial at the Discretion of my Executor hereinafter named

And as touching the Disposition of my real Estate I give and devise the same as follows (that is to say)

I give and devise unto my Son Jonas Stead and unto his Heirs and Assigns for ever the Kiln and the close (?) thereunto adjoining Also the two Cottages now in the Occupation of Joseph Smith and Grace Murgatroyd to enter upon the said Premises at such Time as he attains the Age of twenty one Years I he live but provided he (my said son Jonas Stead) should happen to depart this Life before he attains such Age of twenty one Years I give and bequeath the Premises above mentioned unto my daughters Hannah Stead, Mary the Wife of Thomas Bateson, Ann Stead, Isabel Stead, Betty Stead and Sarah Stead to be equally divided amongst them when the youngest of my said Daughters shall attain the Age of twenty one Years

Also I give and devise unto my said Daughter Hannah Stead the Sum of forty pounds to be paid unto her one Year after my Decease

Also unto my Daughter Mary the Wife of Thomas Bateman I bequeath the Sum of twenty pounds to be paid at Christmas next ensuing the Date hereof

Also unto my Daughter Ann Stead the sum of forty pounds to be paid when she attains the Age of twenty one Years

Also unto my Daughter Isabel Stead the Sum of forty pounds to be paid likewise when she attains the Age of twenty one Years

Also unto my Daughter Betty Stead the Sum of forty pounds to be paid when she attains the Age of twenty one Years

Also unto my Daughter Sarah Stead the sum of forty pounds to be likewise paid when she attains the Age of twenty one Years

Also I give bequeath and devise unto Isabel my Wife the House wherein we now dwell with all my personal Effects whatsoever all which she is to have the entire and sole possession of during the Time she remains my Widow But in case my said Wife should happen to change her condition or depart this Life I do give and devise the said House wherein we now dwell unto my aforesaid son Jonas Stead his Heirs and Assigns for ever

And also to my Daughters Hannah Stead., Mary the Wife of Thomas Bateson, Ann Stead, Isabel Stead, Betty Stead and Sarah Stead at such Time of my Wife's changing her condition or Decease each of them the sum of twenty pounds and above the aforesaid Sum of forty pounds each

Also I nominate and appoint my Brother Samuel Stead, Walter Farrar and Samuel Farrar as Trustees to see and take care that this my last Will and Testament be fully executed as it becomes due In Witness whereof I hereunto set my Hand and Seal the twenty eighth Day of September the Year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and seventy seven

Know all Men, by these presents, that we Samuel Farrar of Bramley in the Parish of Leeds in the County of York slatedresser and Isabel Stead of Farnley in the parish aforesaid widow do stand and are firmly bounden and obliged unto the Worshipful Peter Johnson, Master of Arts, Commissary of the Exchequer Court of the most Reverend Father in God William, by Divine Providence Lord Archbishop of York, Primate of England and Metropolitan lawfully constituted, in the Sum of six hundred Pounds of good and lawful Money of Great Britain to be paid to the said Commissary or his true and lawful Attorney, Executors, Administrators or Assigns, to the which Payment well and truly to be made.

We bind us and each of us, jointly and severally, for and in the whole, our and every of our Heirs, Executors and Administrators, and every of them firmly by the Presents, Sealed with our Seals, Dated the fifth Day of the Month of August in the Year of our Lord One Thousand Seven Hundred and Eighty

The Condition of this Obligation is such, that if the above bounden Samuel Farrar Brother in Law and one of the Executors named in the last Will and Testament of Jabez Stead late of Farnley aforesaid and in the Diocese of York Maltster deceased do well and truly execute the same And do pay his Debts and Legacies so far as his Goods wil Extend and Law shall bind Him if also he do Exhibit into the Exchequer Court at York, a true and perfect Inventory of all and singular the Goods, Rights, Credits, Cattles and Chattles of the said Deceased, and so make a true and just Accompt of the same when he shall be thereunto lawfully called, And moreover, if need require enter unto further Bond, with more sufficient Sureties for the Performance of the Premises as the Judge of the said Court, for the Time being shall think requisite and Needful.

And lastly, do save, defend and harmless keep the above name Judge, and all his Officers, and Ministers, against all Persons by reason of Premises. Then this present Obligation to be void, and of none Effect, or else to remain in full Force and Virtue.

This is the last Will and Testament of me ISABEL STEAD of FARNLEY in the Parish of Leeds in the County of York widow made the seventh day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and ninety four. First, I will and direct that all my just debts, funeral expenses and the expense of proving this my will be first duly paid and discharged by my Executors hereinafter named. And I give and bequeath unto my son Jonas Stead the sum of one hundred and forty pounds. And I give and bequeath unto my daughter Hannah the wife of John Bateson the sum of one hundred and forty pounds. And I give and bequeath unto my daughter Mary the wife of Thomas Bateson the sum of one hundred and forty pounds. And I give and bequeath unto my daughter Ann the wife of Joseph Walker the younger the sum of one hundred and forty pounds. And I give and bequeath unto my daughter Elizabeth the wife of Benjamin North the younger the sum of one hundred and forty pounds. And I give and bequeath unto my daughter Sarah the wife of Jabes Brown the sum of one hundred and forty pounds all which said legacies I will and direct shall be paid at the end of six months next after my decease. All the rest residue and remainder of my personal estate and effects of what kind or nature soever and wheresoever situated I give and bequeath unto the said Jonas Stead, Hannah Bateson, Mary Bateson, Ann Walker, Elizabeth North and Sarah Brown equally to be divided amongst them share and share alike. And I do hereby give devise and bequeath unto the said Thomas Bateson and John Bateson their heirs Executors and administrators all and every estates to me now mortgaged upon trust for the better getting in the monies secured thereupon for the uses and purposes of this my will. And I do hereby make nominate constitute and appoint the said Thomas Bateson and John Bateson joint executors of this my will hereby revoking and making void all former and other will and wills by me at any time heretofore made and do declare this only to be my last will and testament set my hand and seal the day and year first above written./.-
